Engagement Photo Locations in Seattle and Puget Sound

If you have googled for ideas for engagement photography locations in Seattle, you have likely discovered that there are a great many locations for engagement pictures around the Emerald City as well as the greater Seattle area. So many that it might be difficult to pick the one that best captures the mood of your relationship.

King Street Station Engagement Some things to keep in mind as you look through all the options where you would like the engagement pictures to be photographed. If you want downtown Seattle, the Waterfront, the Skyline, the University, a marina or a park. Here are some questions to consider that can help you narrow down where you should have your session.

Let's start with the best time of year for your engagement pictures.

Maybe the better question is, how long should you wait after you're officially engaged to take the pictures? If you're engaged at Christmas or Valentine's Day, do you want your images to represent the "just engaged" excitement in the crisp and possibly snowy weather? Or do you prefer to wait until their are blossoms on the trees? Will it be a long engagement? Would you prefer images with the colors of fall and the cozy wardrobes that go along with it?

Spring blossoms in the background give a nice bubbly light (bokeh) that add sparkle to your images. The best reasons for a spring session are easy to spot:

• The greenery is that fresh, bright green and the flowers are new.

• Any area of the city or town looks, feels and smells fresh with the new season.

• It's not too warm yet, so you won't be sweating plus you can layer the wardrobe without a heavy jacket.

• The sun starts seting a little later by end of March.

Spring time is a great time but if you'd like warmer weather for your engagement photographs to take place in more of a park or beach location, late May, June, July or August hold a lot of promise.

• The weather is much more predictable for outdoor sessions.

• The sunset is well beyond 9pm if you need to push your engagement session for after work and travel time.

• Summer Vacation Day! Make your session a destination date and spend the day!

Fall colors and wardrobes in your engagement sessions around Seattle, rural areas or parks around Seattle have the potential to create some of the most evocative images. Some of the interesting points to consider when choosing a fall engagement session would be

• The drastic change in wardrobe from a hot summer, bring on the sweater weather!

• The glowing sunsets in mid October produce a more intense glow of light as it gets lower in the sky.

• Sun-kissed skin and surrounding warm colors and depending on location in the Evergreen State, there are some locations with spectacular foliage.

BEST TIMES OF THE DAY

That's a no brainer. Early morning or near sunset. Those few hours at the beginning of the day and the end of the day, when the sun is still low for that glowing warm light that is skimming the horizon.

Clients generally do not have much flexibility with the timing of their wedding day portraits, engagements sessions do give you the opportunity to have beautiful images at the hour and location you prefer for the best natural light has to offer and that is the light that looks best on everyone. If you have the choice, to schedule the best time of day, I think that you most likely would.
