Besides wardrobe color coordinating, choosing a theme for your family session can be a real "mind-saver" when considering later how you might want to display your portraits. Believe it or not, giving yourself guidelines at the beginning with a theme will offer you more freedom later. Coordinating images and decor you already have, or plan to have, with your wall portraits provides a motif that will make it easy for you to incorporate new pieces. When you go thrifting or on vacation and come across a stunning piece of artwork, there will be little doubt if it will coordinate with your themed decor! This for me is an easy way to curate specific rooms in my home. Here the mix of tall trees and lighthouse images engage well with the overall Pacific Northwest theme.
